In 2010, I wanted to attempt the first solo unsupported
traverse across the vast landmass of Mongolia, on foot from
east to west through the Eastern Mongolian Steppe, Gobi
Desert and the Altai Mountain Range. The Expedition would
involve walking 1700 miles/2750 km across the Eastern
Mongolian Steppe, Gobi Desert and the Altai Mountain
Range, while manhauling provisions and equipment
weighing in excess of 530lbs/240kg on a wheeled trailer,
specifically designed for the journey.

The expedition initially began in early April, but just three
days in, I decided to abort the attempt due a technical issue
with the trailer.

Undaunted, I returned to the trail once again in late May,
picking up where I left a few weeks prior. Enduring extreme
temperature fluctuations, blizzards, sand storms, isolation,
unrelenting desert heat and brutal terrain.

I managed to manhaul for fifty-two days 700 miles shy of
my final destination covering 1012 miles/1628km before
aborting yet again due to injury. See the
route here.

It was during this expedition that I began suffering
inexplicable and debilitating symptoms that were finally
diagnosed, several months after my return from the
2011 Expedition, as Multiple Sclerosis.
